Subject: I'm Sure the Show Fit The Mood of the Day

I agree that being there puts any show into perspective. The mood of the crowd and the band and the scene and the location -- the vibe if you will.
Just because a show isn't filled with 100% killer energy, doesn't mean the music wasn't perfect for the day.
I've been with SCI where is was hot out and the vibe was pretty mellow. SCI came out and matched the vibe, later that night when it cooled off, the next set matched the increased energy of the crowd.
None can be captured on the tape.
Do any of the Horning's Hideout recordings really match what went down? None that I've heard that I have been too.

Subject: Goes to shows vs. listens to shows...
Subject: Goes to shows vs. listens to shows...
...that seems to be the difference from the "other" review of this show, and mine.
You see, I was in Telluirde on this mighty fine evening. No, the shows up there were by far not the best shows I had seen the band play... but to be in that Box Canyon with a few thousand of my newest and bestest friends, with that amazing scenery and location, well.. I guess what I am saying is that perhaps the term "Location, Location, Location" means something. The shows were good, not great, but far from the worst thing ever played.

A lot of factors such as location, date, and setlist would make one think that this show would be good before even listening to it. But it is crap. Seeing 17:40 next to Black Clouds got me excited, but this is the worst Black Clouds they have played in the state of Colorado, which is a pretty encompassing statement. Land's end was not good either, although not a total bomb I guess (but still pretty crappy). San Jose has good keys I guess, but Kang has clearly already given up. Apparently the lack of good playing sucked the energy out of Kristina Callicott too, who is the least enthusiastic monotone I've ever heard.
The 100 Year Flood > Suntan are the saving grace of this show; it's way cooler than the 11/7/00 100 YF > Suntan. But it's not enough.
